Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market is forecasted to top Asia-Pacific region’s growth at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 19 percent in 2011 – 2013, said a recent survey conducted by an India-based market research and information analysis company.

The global crisis had a strong impact on Vietnam’s economy but, compared to other industries, pharmaceuticals weathered the storm quite well because demand tends to remain constant regardless of economic factors. Although consumption of medical services is much lower than other countries in the region, Vietnam’s pharmaceutical market has continued to grow over recent years and holds significant potential. With a population of more than 87 million, total expenditure on medicines increased from US$1.426 billion in 2008 to US$1.707 billion in 2009 and is forecast to reach US$2.05 billion in 2010.
