Glyceryl trinitrate PDF Print

Glyceryl trinitrate is an organic nitrate with potent vasodilator activity. Intravenous nitroglycerin is among the most potent drugs to treat acute coronary syndromes, such as unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction and it is the first-line treatment for acute congestive heart failure and specifically for acute pulmonary oedema due to its venodilating effects and its effectiveness in reducing cardiac preload. It induces rapid haemodynamic effect characterized by a steep dose-response relationship, therefore prompt and safe titration to the optimum dose is achieved simply by regulating the infusion.
